Description

Ties into the Postbellum America Map, Flags, and Roundels. More in-depth description to come. has arrived! Canada's is a repost from the Map, but hey, I'm not perfect. Also, note that this WWIII world is not just our future, but that of a slightly different timeline.

-----------------

In the aftermath of the Third World War, many nations began periods of reform and even revolution, new alliances and developments from the war having opened the way to great political upheaval.

Canadian Republic
Following the federalization of the United Kingdom, much talk of federalizing the entire Commonwealth came from British nationalists, and a handful of member-states, in a near anarchic state due to the intensive fighting in the Carribean, African, and Pacific theatres, moved forward with applications to join the United Kingdoms of Great Britain. While most were rejected, the acceptance of some island nations raised the alarm in many former-British states. To them, British imperialism was returning, and the increasing hegemony of the British on the global stage served to further their fears. The Canadian population was incredibly tired of being dragged along into Britain's messes. In the Third World War, more Canadian men and women died in the European Front than British (albeit the reasoning being that most British troops were deployed in other theatres, and in truth more of them died in total). Further, the freezing of the Canadian Parliament by King Charles III when they attempts three times to approve a treaty for a separate peace from the war had lead to wide spread protests and Republican sentiment. The denial by the British for any Commonwealth nation to involved themselves in the American Civil War proved the final straw. In a dramatic act of defiance, the majority of the Canadian Parliament met publicly in Ottawa's Confederation Park and held a vote for the dissolution of the Canada as a dominion of the British Crown, and the formation of a Canadian Republic, with an overwhelming "Yes" vote (Some claim the presence of cameras, crowds, and threatening pro-Republican protesters that had occupied the park previously may have influence a multitude of MPs). The flag was changed to reflect their break with Britain, being inspired by the tricolour of British Republicans, who gained increasing support during the war before being marked as a terrorist group.

Cantonese Republic of Guangdong
In 2014, the Hong Kong Protests turned violent. For the next two years, Hong Kong, and eventually the rest of the Guangdong province following the uprisings in Macau, would become a warzone. The People's Republic of China had only just begun to pacify (read: militarily occupy) the region when the Third World War struck. One of the war goals of the American-led Alliance for Freedom was to neutralize the PRC and remove it as a threat, both in the war and afterward. The independence of both Hong Kong (then all of Guangdong) and Tibet became paramount to the Alliance war effort in Asia, with rebels receiving innumerable amounts of supplies and weapons. After the war, the Cantonese Republic of Guangdong was formed out of rebel controlled Southern China. Officially, the nation is 廣東粵共和國 (Guǎngdōng Yuègònghéguó) but is translated by the West as the Cantonese Republic. They are increasingly nationalistic and hypercapitalistic, viewing themselves as distinct from the rest of China, and are quick to try and prove it. A trade and naval power, Guangdong is a growing power in its own right, with the world's fastest growing economy. Current propaganda talks of creating a Cantonese Republic of Guangxi, but the rebuilding effort from damage taken in the war makes this more of a pipedream than anything.

Imperial Republic of Greater Russia
Following the Donbass War, the Russian Federation had experienced unprecedented nationalism and prosperity, having won the first true proxy war of the 21st Century. In fact, during the Third World War, Russian defense of the Federal Republic of Novorossiya was less of a strategic decision and more a point of pride, as Ukrainian unity was a major war-goal of the Alliance, and thus defense of the satellite was seen as a necessity in showing Russian power. However, many felt that the politics of the Russian Federation were holding the nation back; at least, that's what the media told people. Corruption amongst lower level politicians was constantly revealed, whereas the purity and strength of the Federal government (read; of Vladimir Putin) was constantly spoken of. The annexation of Belarus and the economic subjugation of Kazakhstan, combined with the victorious conflict in the Donbass War, led to the popularity of Putin in the military to skyrocket, and made many of his underlings despise him. The 2018 Coup, also known as the Ides of March Coup, occurred after the victory of Vladimir Putin for his fourth presidency in the first round of elections, sealed Russia's fate. Not only did a coup occur, but the plotters attempted to assassinate Vladimir Putin, aiming to blame it on the West. However, the car bomb used served only to remove the President's arm, and to kill his daughter Yekaterina. Not unlike Boris Yeltsin, Putin called upon the military to aid him in deposing the coup plotters, and in 2020, the Russian Federation was replaced by the new, stronger, "purer" Imperial Republic of Greater Russia, with the military having overthrown the government of Kazakhstan and proclaiming its annexation. Using the ribbon of the Order of Saint George, an ever more popular symbol of Russian nationalism, as the new flag of the "new Russia", the Imperial Republic is a dictatorship, albeit one with an elected legislature. Following the death of Vladimir Putin in 2038, the next Vozhd of Greater Russia to be elected would be Mariya Putina, thus marking what many believe is but the beginning of the "Putin Dynasty".

Levantine People's Republic
After the Donbass War and eventually WWIII took the global eye off of the Middle East, the Islamic State remained content, beginning a period of stabilization and consolidation before readying itself to strike again against the West once it had weakened itself. But then the World War struck the Middle East. As the nations around it collapsed, so too did the Islamic State, though it ironically remained one of the most stable parts of the region. In the aftermath, due to the Islamic military showing actual defense of their territory, combined with the war crimes committed by Iraqi and Syrian troops on IS cities, led to many in the area being loyal to their new government. However, the atrocities of the war, many of them committed by fellow Muslims and Westerners alike, led to an increasing amount of apostates. Liberalization was increasing across the nation due to concessions made by the government for the assurance of security and this only allowed Ba'athist ideologues to begin spreading socialist rhetoric, and with the leadership of the Islamic State so fragile, the 'Caliph' having died during the war without an appointed successor, the Council of Imams saw itself overrun as a so-called "People's Majilis" was formed in nearly every major city in the Islamic State. Revolution was swift, and in 2033, the Levantine People's Republic was established. While mostly unrecognized de jure, the nation has de facto sovereignty, mostly because of recognition by its neighbors in the reformed Syrian Republic, the Republic of Kurdistan, and the Republic of Iraq. Due to its wealth and stability in comparison to other Middle Eastern nations, it is now a regional power, and may even one day become a global power.

German Union
The German Union was formed after the collapse of the Eurozone and the European Union, starting at first as a common currency and economic agreement between Germany and Austria, later with the inclusion of Luxembourg. The new Großdeutsche Mark was able to be what the Euro was once dreamed of being, with smart economic planning having spared the three nations much of the strife the "Euro-pocalypse" has brought the rest of continent, the Mark even having greater value than the US Dollar. As the Russians became more militant, Germany, Austria, and Luxembourg agreed to have the economic alliance also become a military one, with full integration as one Federation occurring just prior to the Third World War as rising tensions made many like the idea of strength in numbers. After the war, outside of the annexation of German-speaking Belgium to the administration of Luxembourg after the Implosion of Belgium, Germany has made no official gains; instead they simply militarily occupy much of Eastern Europe that lies north of the Balkans, in counter to the Russian occupation of the Baltics, Finland, and Arabia. Most people under German rule in these areas refer to the government as "The Fourth Reich", calling their own "cooperative governments" the rather diminutive title of "Reichskommissariat". However, they harbor no true ill-will, believing the Germans are a far better master to the Russians they had once been under in decades past, and the fair and open elections maintained by the German military, and in Germany itself, has allowed for the growth of the Integrationist Movement, who call for the German Union to officially bring in its occupied territories as equal members of the federation. Some argue the name should be changed to the "Mitteleuropan Union" but some don't even go that far. Many Germans support the idea, but others are opposed, not out of racism or anti-imperialism, but because granting the regions equal rights might mean the a less secure buffer between Munich and Moscow...
